We’d like to thank everyone that supported the BBQ sale this weekend, those that cooked and especially those that purchased BBQ. We had a great time cooking the BBQ and we hope that everyone that purchased some really enjoyed it.

Harvest Moon Dance Kick-Off Meeting

There will be a Kick-Off meeting Thursday August 26, 2010 in the Knights Meeting Room to start working this activity. The dance will be held at council 4080 located on Leeman Ferry Rd in Huntsville on Saturday October 30^th. The proceeds from the dance will be used to support the council’s Intellectual Disabilities fundraising.

In order to make the dance a success we will need help in putting the activity together. Fortunately, we have a location reserved that includes a cash bar and we also have an orchestra reserved for the dance.

All that remains are volunteers to help with things like:

Tickets
Decorations
Food preparation and service
Baskets for raffles
Door prizes
Cleanup

We Care Project

Our council has initiated a new ministry called the “We Care” project to support any of our council members or any sons or daughters of our council members who are directly serving our military in the combat zones of Iraq or Afghanistan. Specifically, our “we care” support will be to send a monthly box of donated snacks, hygiene items or reading material to each military member in an effort to show our support to them in a number of ways.

The most important aspect of this project is to let these dedicated warriors know that “we care” for their well being and safety as they undertake a very difficult assignment. They are seriously placing their lives at risk on behalf of our nation. Our support will be very important to their success in this challenging duty.

Generally, we can show them that ‘we care” by sending them:

Words of encouragement to bolster their morale

Practical food items to give them a physical boost when they may not have access to a regular, decent meal

Hygiene items to meet some minor physical, hygiene or even minor medical need because their duty location may not allow them access to some of the basic day-to-day needs

Reading material to use after they have completed the “hurry up” part of an assignment and are in the “wait” part of that same assignment

Our procedure is quite simple. Brother Knights, or any one wishing to participate, will bring their donated items to the monthly council business meeting. We will also have a card at the meeting where all members can write any appropriate words of encouragement and sign the card. The “we care” committee will divide the donated items, pack them for shipment and deliver the boxes to a nearby US Postal Service office. Our council will fund the cost of the postage.

Please support this unique and important ministry to two special warriors who have strong ties to “our” council. Please let them know that “we care”.

Scholarship Opportunity

The Knights of Columbus are offering graduating seniors the opportunity to apply for two $500 scholarships offered by the council. Applications are available on via the council website at the scholarship page to the right. Applications need to be submitted by Sunday May 9th to be eligible for judging by the committee.

Servant Leadership Retreat a Success

The council hosted a retreat this past Saturday and it was an unqualified success. Special thanks go out to Christina and Paul Semmens as well as Brother Mike Mosimann, who were all guest speakers for the retreat, which focused on servant leadership.
